Matt LaFleur, Packers Must be Wary of Key Trap Games in 2025

The Green Bay Packers aim to make a third consecutive playoff appearance, and continue to not just add postseason experience for quarterback Jordan Love and an emerging young roster but make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl.

However, there are several “trap” games that head coach Matt LaFleur and the Packers must be wary of in 2025, if Green Bay is going to make headway in an NFC North that figures to be a gauntlet, once again, after sending three teams to the postseason in 2024.

Green Bay Packers’ Potential Trap Games

Week 7: at Arizona Cardinals

The Packers emerge from the bye week with a showdown against the potential Super Bowl contending Cincinnati Bengals before taking on the Arizona Cardinals. The combination of a cross-country flight to Arizona and an improved Cardinals team built around a potentially dominant defense could make this a sneakily difficult game for the Packers.

Week 11: at New York Giants

This might be the working definition of a trap game. The Giants are coming off a dreadful four-win season in 2024, but host the Packers the week after Green Bay plays what promises to be an emotional game against the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, who ended the Packers’ season last January and before a showdown with the bitter rival Minnesota Vikings. If LaFleur isn’t careful, it could be easy to look past the Giants, who boast what could quickly develop into a potent and disruptive pass rush.

Week 15: at Denver Broncos

Denver, led by second-year quarterback Bo Nix, joined in the backfield by explosive rookie running back Omarion Hampton and buttressed by one of the NFL’s best defenses, could be a team to watch to potentially represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Sandwiching this game in between two dates against the Chicago Bears could make it a difficult spot, especially if the Bears make major progress in the NFC North.
