The Green Bay Packers didn't intend to make significant coaching staff changes this offseason, but were forced to it. In addition to losing defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley to the Miami Dolphins as a head coach, special teams coordinator/assistant head coach Rich Bisaccia decided to leave Green Bay fairly late in the process.
To replace Bisaccia, head coach Matt LaFleur hired former New England Patriots coordinator Cam Achord. Curiously, Achord was on a list Bisaccia gave the Packers when he left.
Matt LaFleur says after Rich Bisaccia stepped down, Bisaccia gave him a list of names for next special teams coordinator and Cam Achord was on that list. LaFleur hasn’t had a direct convo with Bisaccia about why he left, but assumed he wanted to be closer to family.

LaFleur revealed the details during his press conference at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. The Packers interviewed several candidates, but the combination of experience and new blood was good enough for LaFleur to choose Achord.
Rich Bisaccia left the Packers on Feb. 17, much later than a usual parting of ways would happen. LaFleur said he didn't talk to Bisaccia about the reasoning. The coordinator didn't retire, though, opting to take a similar position at Clemson.
“After I made the decision to move in a new direction, Coach [Dabo] Swinney approached me with the opportunity to come back to a place that holds special meaning for me and my family," Bisaccia said. "I’m thrilled to be able to return to the Clemson community and serve this program in any way I can."
Recently, general manager Brian Gutekunst also mentioned that the Packers were not expecting Bisaccia's departure, especially so late in the process.
In addition to Bisaccia, the Packers also lost former assistant special teams coach Byron Storer, who left to become the new Cleveland Browns special teams coordinator. The only member of the special teams staff who remains is Cory Harkey, promoted from ST quality control coach to assistant special teams coach. Former defensive assistant Jeff Koonz will also be an assistant special teams coach.
The Packers also gave assistant head coach titles to quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy and outside linebackers coach/run game coordinator DeMarcus Covington.
