Key Points:
In one of the marquee Week 5 college football games, the No. 21 USC Trojans took a trip to Champaign to take on the No. 23 Illinois Fighting Illini.
Saturday's meeting marked just the 14th time all-time that these two Big Ten programs have played one another in football, and the first time since 2007. Although USC came into the game as the favorites and had won eight of the last 10 meetings, it was Illinois who came out on top, as they pulled off the 34-32 victory thanks to a game-winning field goal as time expired.
Not only are the active USC players disappointed with the result, but 2004 Heisman-winning quarterback for USC, Matt Leinart, was also clearly dejected by the result. The Fox "Big Noon Kickoff" host took to X after the game to issue an apology of sorts directed at Illinois fans.
"I’m sorry Illinois fans," Leinart wrote. "You all brought it today @BNKonFOX. I was wrong and I own it. Great team win!!!!!"
During "Big Noon Kickoff," Leinart taunted fans with his prediction that USC would win, donning a trojan helmet and even brandishing a sword.
"I NEED MY SWORD!" ️✌️@IlliniFootball fans welcome @MattLeinartQB with loud boos pic.twitter.com/7hJt8rBwYb

Following the loss, USC dropped to 4-1 on the season. They will have a chance at redemption against a ranked foe in a couple of weeks, as after getting a bye next week, they'll host the No. 19 Michigan Wolverines.
As for Illinois, they also moved to 4-1 on the season, and will have a chance to move to 5-1 next week when they take on Purdue.
