Matt Nagy, David Culley on verge of being fired?

The NFL regular season is rapidly approaching its end point.

And while many franchises greatly overperformed the expectations folks had for them coming in, others badly missed the mark.

A few of those teams will be making some big changes sooner rather than later as a result of those missteps.

And apparently they have no intention of waiting for the season to officially conclude in order to make those changes.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, two coaches are on the verge of being ousted: Matt Nagy of the Chicago Bears and David Culley of the Houston Texans.

“Two NFL teams currently have interim head coaches, and there is a strong feeling in league circles that at least two more franchises will be on the market for a new head coach by the end of the season,” he wrote.

“Both the Texans and Bears are heavily mulling launching a coach search in the coming weeks, NFL sources said, with the pull to making a change growing within those organizations.”

The Bears are 4-9 on the year and have been a dumpster fire from start to finish. Players on the roster have been openly mocking the team’s leadership from the jump, so none of this should come as a shock.

“Many of the assistants on Bears coach Matt Nagy’s staff have already been looking for potential jobs on the college markets, and most of them are operating as if they will be seeking employment elsewhere next season,” La Canfora added.

Culley being on the outs in Houston is a bit more surprising. One season to turn around a franchise that has been as ravaged as the Texans is a tall order.

“While the Texans have shown some fight and spirit at times, sources said internally the team’s brass is also weighing whether it needs to get back into the coaching market in the short term,” La Canfora noted.

It’s very clear where quarterback Deshaun Watson is headed from here, so it does make sense that the Texans would simply opt in to bring in a long-term coach to oversee what will likely be a long-term rebuild.

The Bears and Texans will obviously be seeking out new leadership in the coming weeks, as will the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Will any other teams be joining them? Time will tell.
