Matthew Golden, Tez Johnson headline list of standout NFL rookies from Week 6

Adjusting to the NFL can be difficult for rookies, but each season, a few almost stand out immediately. Here are five from Week 6:

Green Bay Packers WR Matthew Golden (first round)

Golden (pick No. 23) broke out in Sunday's home game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Houston/Texas product had a season-high 102 yards (86 receiving and 16 rushing).

Following the Packers' 27-18 win, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love complimented Golden and hinted that his role will expand over the course of the season.

"I think he's a guy we're going to try to get going and keep finding him ways to get him the ball, because he's done some really good things," the QB said. "It's always about trying to spread it around, but he's definitely a very explosive playmaker, and we just have to keep finding ways to get to him."

Green Bay maximizing Golden — who ran a 4.29 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine — would make its offense even more explosive. Through six weeks, the Packers (3-1-1) rank eighth in the league in points scored (26.2).

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Tez Johnson (seventh round)

In Sunday's 30-19 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Johnson (pick No. 235) had just one catch, but it was one of the most critical plays of the game.

With the Buccaneers leading 20-19 late in the third quarter, the Troy/Oregon product scored his first career TD on a 45-yard pass from QB Baker Mayfield. After the play, Johnson thought he was receiving MVP chants but soon realized they weren't for him.

"So I asked [Buccaneers WR Sterling Shepard], I was like 'Shep they was chanting MVP?' And he was like, 'Yeah.' And I was like, 'I ain't even do nothing this year,' and then he was like, 'They talking about Baker, Tez,'" Johnson said postgame. "I was like, well, that explains it, but he is the MVP."

Johnson — the adopted brother of Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix — has just six receptions for 112 yards and one TD catch through five games. However, Mayfield may start targeting him more to keep his MVP campaign rolling.

Buccaneers star rookie WR Emeka Egbuka (pick No. 19) injured his hamstring against the 49ers. Per Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, the injury isn't considered serious, but he could miss time. With WR Mike Evans also battling a hamstring injury, Johnson should assume a larger workload.

Indianapolis Colts TE Tyler Warren (first round)

Per Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper, the Colts have scored 194 points through their first six games, the most in franchise history. Warren (pick No. 14) has been leading the early-season charge.

In Sunday's 31-27 home victory over the Arizona Cardinals, the Penn State product had six receptions for 63 yards and one TD. Through six games, Warren leads the Colts in receptions (29) and receiving yards (370).

No TE has won Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year since the award's inception in 1967. Last season, Las Vegas Raiders TE Brock Bowers finished second in OROY voting behind Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels.

With the Colts off to a 5-1 start, though, Warren is making a compelling case. As of Monday, FanDuel Sportsbook gives him the fourth-best odds (+800) to win OROY.

Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty (first round)

Earlier this season, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said they must "run the ball better." Now, they're doing just that.

In Sunday's 20-10 win over the Tennessee Titans, Jeanty (pick No. 6) had 23 carries for 75 yards and one TD. Over his past three games, the former Boise State standout has rushed for 280 yards and two TDs on 58 carries (via StatMuse).

The Raiders (2-4) should keep feeding Jeanty to take pressure off struggling QB Geno Smith. Through six starts, the two-time Pro Bowler has tossed a league-leading 10 interceptions.

Seattle Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori (second round)

After a 38-35 Week 5 home loss to the Buccaneers (5-1), Emmanwori told Ari Horton of the team website that Seattle's defense was on a "mission" in Sunday's road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

They completed it in Sunday's 20-12 road victory, holding the Jaguars to a season-low 273 yards. Emmanwori (pick No. 35) had a season-high nine tackles, including one for loss. His play impressed former Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman.

While watching the game, the Super Bowl XLVIII champion tweeted Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald is "finally getting to unleash" the South Carolina product.

Emmanwori's continued growth under Macdonald could help Seattle (4-2) produce another "Legion of Boom," the talented secondary that featured Sherman and safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. The Seahawks already have a star corner in two-time Pro Bowler Devon Witherspoon.
