Matthew Stafford excited to put 'roots down' with Rams

The defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams have been plenty busy this offseason. They added one-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson, could potentially still bring star wideout Odell Beckham Jr. back, traded receiver Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans and then signed veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford to a four-year extension reportedly worth $160 million with $135 million guaranteed after the 34-year-old helped them win a title during his first season with the organization.

Stafford, who spent his first 12 NFL campaigns with the Detroit Lions before the March 2021 trade, suggested Monday he could finish his career with the Rams if he has a say in the matter.

"I just had so much fun playing for this team this year, playing for this organization, this coaching staff, and I wanted to make sure I was able to do this for a long time," Stafford said, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN. "I obviously wanted to say thanks to the Rams for giving me that opportunity. It was a lot of hard work getting to this point. I'm just happy where we are and to know what the future looks like for me and for our team. It's an exciting thing as a player to kind of know where you are going to be and be able to put some roots down and really go try to make something really special for a while.

"I was just trying to find something that felt good for both sides where we are able to continue to add players and pieces around me.''

As noted by Pro-Football-Reference, Stafford went winless in three postseason games with the Lions but seemed to find a new level featuring for the Rams throughout this past postseason tournament. Per ESPN stats, he completed 98 of 140 playoff passes (70%) for 1,188 yards with nine touchdowns, three interceptions, a 108.3 passer rating and 66.2 total QBR.
