Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been the most frequent topic of discussion when it comes to the franchise this offseason. The veteran star suffered a back injury that held him out of multiple weeks of training camp, with little to no clarity from the organization on his status.

After a vague announcement from head coach Sean McVay, Stafford was back at practice. This came after two mysterious back treatments and lots of uncertainty about whether or not he would be back for Week 1.

But all indications point to Stafford leading the Rams in their Week 1 bout against the Houston Texans on Sunday at 1:25 p.m. PT. Back injuries, though, can be tricky and difficult to manage. But for now, Stafford isn’t thinking about that and is focused solely on playing at the highest level, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

“Oh, I’m gonna go play the game,” Stafford said prior to Wednesday’s practice. “Whatever happens, happens. I’m playing like I always play. I got no issues with a physical game. Obviously would love to stay as clean as possible, but I’m not thinking twice about that at all. I’m out there ready to go play.”

Stafford is no stranger to playing through injury. He is known for his on-field toughness and willingness to battle through adversity. So it stands to reason that he would treat this back injury the same, and play as if there’s no problem.

It’s a strategy that is certainly good for him and the Rams, who are looking to contend for a Super Bowl in 2025. L.A. is arguably among the top 3-4 contenders in the NFC this season alongside teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If Stafford’s back ultimately becomes a bigger issue, that’s something he and the Rams will discuss at that point.

Kyren Williams looking to make the most of reduced role for Rams

Kyren Williams is entering his fourth season with the Los Angeles Rams, fresh off a career year that saw him rush for 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Williams carried the ball 316 times last season, which trailed only Saquon Barkley (345) and Derrick Henry (325).

While Williams is once again going to be the Rams’ lead running back this year, they have excellent depth behind him in second-year player Blake Corum and fourth-round draft pick Jarquez Hunter.

Williams understands that his workload might be reduced and wants to make the most of his opportunity.
