Mayor Of Philadelphia Has Blunt Response To 'Eagles' Chant Mistake
Jasper Colt-USA TODAY

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker shook off her embarrassing Eagles-related spelling error earlier this week.

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in the snow at Lincoln Financial Field to wrap up a spot in the NFC Championship Game. Thanks to the Washington Commanders' upset of the top-seeded Detroit Lions on Saturday night, the Eagles will host that conference title matchup this weekend.

Prior to the game, Parker addressed the city with information regarding travel restrictions due to the impending inclement weather.

"Let me be one thousand and one percent clear: traveling to the Eagles game today is essential travel," Parker said, via CBS Philadelphia. "If you are driving, just go slow, but get there. If you are catching SEPTA and mass transit, just get on mass transit and get there. But making it to our Philadelphia Eagles game on today is essential."

The 52-year-old politician then tried to lead the crowd in the famous "E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles' chant but accidentally spelled it "E-L-G-L-E-S."

The facepalm worthy mistake quickly went viral, but on Tuesday night, two days after the Eagles' big win, Parker poked fun at herself during a press conference.

"We don't promise perfection, I'm so happy I never have," she told reporters. "Especially after I couldn't spell Eagles right."

Good on Parker for having a sense of humor. The Democratic leader, who assumed office on Jan. 1, 2024, had better be prepared for some additional opportunities to do the chant if the Eagles keep winning.

If the Birds win Sunday, they will move on to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. Waiting for them will be either the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs

It was Kansas City that narrowly took down the Eagles on the biggest stage two years ago. Philadelphia would love to exact revenge on the two-time defending champions.

Commanders-Eagles will kick off at 3 p.m. ET Sunday on FOX.
