Undrafted free agency is always a fun time of year.

Each year, teams bring in a flurry of UDFAs to compete throughout rookie minicamp and over the summer, and as New York Jets fans know, it is easy to fall in love with these types of players throughout training camp and the preseason.

Over the past few seasons, many undrafted players have not only made the Jets’ 53-man roster but also made an impact for the team, including names like Bryce Huff, Tony Adams, and Xavier Gipson.

This year, Gang Green signed 12 undrafted free agents, including one who we can guarantee fans will love: Ball State edge rusher Nathan Voorhis.

Introducing Nathan Voorhis

Voorhis was born and raised in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, just over an hour from MetLife Stadium. Subsequently, he grew up a Jets fan.

Not only was he bleeding green from a very young age, but it is easy to see why the Jets viewed him as a priority UDFA candidate; his production last season was outstanding.

Nicknamed “The QB Killer,” Voorhis finished the year with 51 total tackles (17.0 for loss), 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles, contributing to a first-team All-MAC season.

While he is undersized for an NFL edge rusher at 6-foot-2 and 251 pounds, his production is what caught the eyes of talent evaluators. He plays with an extremely high motor and has a great get-off. Voorhis is also a very strong run defender, which complements his pass-rushing chops, as evidenced by his 17 tackles for loss last year.

Here is a look at the Jets’ current depth chart at edge rusher.

  1. Joseph Ossai (JACK)
  2. Kingsley Enagbare (SAM)
  3. Will McDonald (JACK)
  4. David Bailey (SAM)
  5. Braiden McGregor (SAM)
  6. Tyler Baron (SAM)
  7. Kingsley Jonathan (JACK)
  8. Ochaun Mathis (SAM)
  9. Paschal Ekeji (JACK)
  10. Nathan Voorhis (JACK)

While it’s an uphill battle for Voorhis to earn a spot on the Jets’ 53-man roster, never say never. Over the past couple of seasons, we have seen multiple undrafted defensive linemen beat the odds and crack Gang Green’s 53-man roster, such as Braiden McGregor and Eric Watts.

Signing to the practice squad is also an option for the Ball State product.

Regardless of what his future holds, Nathan “The QB Killer” Voorhis is a player that will be hard for New York Jets fans not to root for throughout the spring and summer.
