The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are no longer just America’s team, according to trailblazing cheerleader Julissa Garcia. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) make an impression on everyone, and their first-ever NFL event in Mexico City, Mexico, cemented the country’s love for them. It’s a good thing the DCC are as charismatic as they are, because the team themselves leave a lot to be desired. Learn more about the ladies’ trip to Mexico below!
There is some hubbub around the league that this is the first NFL event in Mexico period, and that just isn’t true. The NFL has visited four times since 2016 and will be back for their fifth in 2026. There is arguably no NFL event bigger than a game. However, this is the first DCC event in Mexico which is equally exciting in it’s own way.
You can follow much of the ladies’ September travel with this photo album provided by the Cowboys. This jaunt to Mexico City was definitely the epitome of a working vacation. Some of the cheerleaders attended a kick-off with fans. Everyone visited a local orphanage, the Pietro Rizzuto Foundation, met with fans, and took their annual swimsuit calendar photos while they were in Mexico.
This trip was especially impactful for Ms. Julissa Garcia. Garcia is Mexican-American, raised in Odessa, Texas, where she was also deeply connected to her heritage hailing from Chihuahua, Mexico. Going back and forth between the two countries for her cheerleading career feels incredibly natural to Garcia.
Being a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader was Garcia’s goal since childhood. She recalls the story of establishing that goal, saying, “I always say that my journey with DCC started when I was six years old. My parents took me to a DCC camp back at Valley Ranch in 2008…In that moment, I told my mom, ‘When I grow up, I want to be a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.” Last year that dream came true. And now in Garcia’s second year, she got to take a trailblazing trip to a place she identifies so strongly with. Who knows what next year will bring?
Mexico is one of the designated markets in the NFL’s Global Market Program we have discussed before for the Dallas Cowboys. Due to the ongoing partnership between Mexico and the DCC, hopefully Julissa will have the opportunity to visit again. The cheerleader’s clear love for her role with the DCC is infectious. No doubt the young girls at the foundation were inspired by Garcia to follow their dreams as well. The NFL is for everyone, and the DCC is making that clear this year with this trailblazing event.
