Miami Dolphins are high on a list that they don’t want to be on in 2025

The Miami Dolphins are going to be a part of an NFL first during the 2025 season.  The team is a part of the first ever game in Spain, which was announced on Wednesday as being against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, November 16

Naturally, that's quite the road trip for the team, but it's just several of very many hours the team will spend on airplanes this year.

Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Dolphins will travel the eighth most miles during the 2025 season with 24,409.

Naturally, the Dolphins often have long road trips, as they play in a division with three opponents who are located in the Northeast.  That, of course, is going to generate some serious mileage through the skies.

However, add in a trans-Atlantic flight and return, and you really start adding in some additional travel time.  The Dolphins are also scheduled to face AFC North foes Pittsburgh and Cleveland on the road, as well as the furthest AFC South team in the Indianapolis Colts.  The Panthers and Falcons offer somewhat of a travel reprieve by comparison.

That being said, it's still significantly worse for the teams on the West Coast.  Out of the top ten teams with the most travel miles, six come from west divisions - 3 in the AFC and 3 in the NFC.  Pretty logical considering all have to travel east significant distances to reach many of their opponents.  And the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams have managed to do just fine in recent years despite the logistical challenges.

Miami also had the AFC 2 seed in their grasp despite a long trip to Frankfort to face the Chiefs back in 2023.  Their collapse to lose what seemed like their first division title since 2008 had more to do with roster attrition and poor play than it did being weary travelers.

Still, it can't hurt to have less travel mileage during the season. That's a luxury the 2025 Dolphins won't have.
