Miami Dolphins' biggest remaining roster needs after the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft

The Miami Dolphins made their pick on Thursday night at 13 in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant.

The move addressed one major roster question the franchise had coming into the draft, but plenty of other issues remain. Here's the top three after round one.

3) Safety

I came very close to putting defensive line here again, and with good reason. The players behind Grant and Zach Seiler aren't good enough, although Benito Jones is a serviceable depth piece. However, Miami now has two studs at the position, which is more than I can say about the safety room.

Ifeatu Melifonwu is intriguing with a very nice 2023 season under his belt, but he's struggled majorly with injuries. Ashtyn Davis has proven production in generating turnovers, something Miami needs more of, but is he ready to go from reserve to filling the shoes helping fill the shoes of Jevon Holland's departure? Elijah Campbell's return helps, but a significant addition is needed here.

2) Offensive line

Protecting Tua is still an absolute must, and the team hasn't done enough to build a wall in front of him. Signing James Daniels in free agency was a nice value signing, and he has the upside of a solid starter - if he's fully recovered from an Achilles tear last year. But they still need a starter at guard, and getting one with tackle flexibility would be nice. I'm not sold on Patrick Paul as the answer at left tackle.

1) Cornerback

With things with Jalen Ramsey having gone off the tracks and apparently beyond the point of repair, the Dolphins are in the direst of need at the position, still lacking two starters as they head to a crucial day two. It goes without saying that one of their two picks on Friday evening (48 and 98 as of now) simply HAVE to be a cornerback. They can't wait any longer.
