Miami Dolphins Gave Fans an Entertaining Game vs. Chiefs

As loyal fans, few of us expected the Dolphins to upset the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs.

Neither did the Vegas oddsmakers, who predicted an 88% probability of a Chiefs victory and a ten-point spread.

But at halftime, Coach Jeff Hafley said he was proud of how hard the Dolphins were playing.

The expectation of the 2026 season was to improve week to week and keep showing effort during the game.

After the Chiefs rolled over the Miami defense on their first drive, the Dolphins didn’t quit, showed resilience, and remained competitive.

With Caleb Douglas out with an ankle injury, the depleted Dolphins receiver corps relied on Chris Bell and Malik Washington, who absorbed most of the workload.

Malik Willis showed multiple times that he isn’t afraid to throw it deep, despite several inaccurate throws that could have resulted in long gains and possible scores.

Yet it was refreshing to see that aspect of the Dolphins offense, given we had grown too accustomed to the dink-and-dunk Miami offense of the past couple of years.

Several other signs of improved play were noticeable.

The defense finally showed some ability to pressure the quarterback, and although we remain sackless in the first three games, we did have two sacks taken back because of penalties.

Jeff Hafley is very aggressive, maybe overly so, when he goes on a fourth and six on our side of the fifty-yard line with six minutes left and two timeouts.

The failed fourth-down conversion resulted in a Mahomes-to-Kelce touchdown, bringing the score to 24-10.

But what do we have to lose this season?

The evaluation of Malik Willis continues as we hope that he becomes that elusive franchise quarterback, and given our expected high draft pick in 2027, the Dolphins could trade down for a plethora of picks to fill this thin roster.

Willis’s ability to use his legs to evade pressure and make positive plays is a welcome sight for Fins fans, as we haven’t seen that ability in a long time.

And what about Jacob Rodriguez?

Wow, that kid is for real!

Of course, the coaches still have many issues to work out: untimely penalties, poor decisions at inopportune times, and a tendency to take low-probability risks, to name a few.

Despite the 24-10 loss, this third game of the season is something to build on.
