Miami Dolphins make bold move in second round of the draft to address a need that fans have been constantly screaming for them to make

The Miami Dolphins, at long last, have done what so many of their fans have pounded the table for them to do - take their offensive line more seriously. They wasted little time doing that on Friday evening early in the second round.

The Dolphins moved up from 48 to 37 and selected Arizona guard Jonah Savaiinaea.

Prospect Name Scouting Report

Jonah Savaiinaea, IOL, Arizona

Age
: 21 (1/13/04)

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 46

Pre-Draft Round Projection: 2

Jonah Savaiinaea is a mammoth of a man with a thickly built frame at 6'4" and 325 pounds and 34-inch arms. He's a likely candidate to kick inside to guard at the next level, but he brings a stout anchor with very good play strength and use of hands to his game. He fits perfectly into the classic mold of a mauler-type blocker up the middle. He'll solve the middle of an offensive line right away and keep the pocket clean for his quarterback for the next decade. - AJ Schulte, A to Z Sports

Career Projection: Immediate quality starter

Why the Dolphins picked him

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.  The Dolphins have to get better and more physical on both sides of the line of scrimmage, and now both of their picks have done that, with DT Kenneth Grant going to Miami in the first round

Savaiinaea is an absolute mauler and will immediately slot in as a starter at one of the two starting guard spots, with free agent James Daniels set to take the other one. He allowed 4 sacks and 15 pressures last season in 478 pass blocking snaps for Arizona.

It was a steep price to pay, as the Dolphins are sending the 48th, 98th and 135 picks to the Raiders for the 37th pick they just used plus 143.  That means Miami won't pick again as things currently stand until the fourth round with pick 116.  That's a long time to wait.

However, Miami did what it needed to do in this draft - and what fans and media alike have been basically screaming for since before last season - improve their offensive line with some tough, physical dudes. They got one in Savaiinaea.
