The Miami Dolphins had a solid 2025 NFL draft. However, there is one sleeper pick who could have a massive impact on the team, both with his individual performance and something he could provide to franchise quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Ollie Gordon II, the running back out of Oklahoma State, was selected by the Dolphins with the No. 179 overall pick in the sixth round. He's very talented at running with the football, but he has another skill that could be just as important.
Eric Edholm of NFL.com has revealed that Gordon's "hidden superpower" is his ability to block in the passing game.
"This is interesting. The Dolphins have a slew of fast backs, but Gordon is cut from different cloth," Edholm wrote. "He's more of a build-up-speed runner whose hidden superpower is in pass protection."
How could a sixth-round pick change everything for Miami? There is a very clear reason.
Throughout his young NFL career, Tagovailoa has dealt with multiple concussions. He has missed time due to injury and needs to be protected better if the Dolphins still want him to be a long-term quarterback.
Gordon's ability to protect Tagovailoa at the running back position could go a long way towards keeping the 27-year-old healthy, upright, and on the field making plays.
Add in the fact that Gordon carried the football 537 times for 2,920 yards and 36 touchdowns in his three college seasons for an average of 5.4 yards per carry and things look even better.
That isn't to say that Gordon will be the starter in Miami right off the bat. Along with him at the position are De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Alexander Mattison. However, he could find his way onto the field and make a major impact as a pass-blocker.
