Miami Dolphins Part Ways With Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio mutually agreed to part ways after one season, the team announced on Wednesday.

The Dolphins' defense, which was ravaged by injuries to key players throughout the season, finished 22nd in scoring and 10th in yards allowed.

Former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley is considered a top target to replace Fangio.

According to ESPN, Fangio, who spent the 2022 season as a consultant with the Philadelphia Eagles, is likely to land in Philadelphia as its defensive coordinator.

The Eagles planned to name Fangio as their defensive coordinator last year once they found out Jonathan Gannon had a real shot at landing a head coaching job. Still, Fangio had already committed to Miami and didn't feel comfortable backing out.

The Eagles ended up hiring Sean Desai as their defensive coordinator. However, coach Nick Sirianni demoted Desai in favor of Matt Patricia following blowout losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in early December that dropped the Eagles to 10-3.
