Miami Dolphins part ways with five-year starter amid series of roster moves on Thursday

The Miami Dolphins made some moves on Thursday in advance of rookie minicamp, and there was a notable name who was let go by the team.

The team announced that long snapper Blake Ferguson was released, along with CB Ryan Cooper, Jr., DT Neil Farrell, and OL Chasen Hines.

Ferguson was selected by the Dolphins in the 6th round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of LSU.  He would go on to start every game for Miami from 2020 through the 2023 season.

However, 2024 was a bit of an odd year for Ferguson. He was cut in August 2024 and re-signed again the next day.  He started the first five games of the year but missed the rest of the season after being placed on the non-football illness list for an undisclosed illness.

It's not particularly clear why the Dolphins parted ways with Ferguson, but it's notable that the team doesn't have another long snapper on the roster. They also did not take one during the NFL Draft.  Accordingly, the team will have to find someone the remainder of the offseason to handle those duties.
