Miami Dolphins Re-Sign Riley Patterson

The Miami Dolphins announced Thursday morning that they have re-signed kicker Riley Patterson.

Riley Patterson was a free agent and is coming off a sensational season.

There was some question whether he played so well that he would be priced out of the market for Miami. And then Miami signed Zane Gonzalez on Tuesday, and many assumed Patterson wouldn’t return.

Now it looks like we will have a good old-fashioned training-camp kicking battle between Gonzalez and Patterson.

John-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley have said they want competition at every position, and it appears they now have that with their kicker.

Patterson was 27 for 29 on field goals for a whopping 93.1% and 34 for 25 on extra points for 97.1%.

He scored 115 points for the Dolphins last season and was clutch in many big moments, making many big kicks.

Gonzalez signed a 1 year deal with Miami earlier this week.

Gonzalez will turn 31 in May and has bounced around the league and played with many teams.

He has spent time with Cleveland, Carolina, Arizona, Atlanta, Detroit, San Francisco, and Washington.

Gonzalez was out of the league in 2022 and 2023.

In 2024, he played in 6 games with Washington. He was 0-1 on 50+. yard field goals, and 4 of 5 on 40 to 49.

In 2025, he joined Atlanta midway through the season, and he was 7 of 9 on 50+ and 8 for 8 in 40 to 49 yard kicks.

Also in 2025, Gonzalez was named the NFC Special Teams player of the week twice.

For his career, he has never missed a field goal under 30 yards.

He has only missed four field goals in his lifetime between 30 and 39 yards, and he is 18 for 28 on 50+ yard kicks.

Lifetime on kicks between 40 and 49 yards, he is 41 of 54.
