Miami Should Avoid Anthony Richardson at All Costs
The Indianapolis Colts have given Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade.
The Miami Dolphins need a quarterback.
So, logically, people are connecting the dots and thinking Miami should possibly make a trade to get Richardson, the former 4th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Richardson is from Miami, FL, and has all of the physical traits you want in a player.
His athleticism is off the charts, he has a rocket of an arm, and he is built like a Greek god.
There is one small problem, though: he can’t play quarterback!
There is only one reason a team (like the Dolphins) would consider Richardson.
HE IS CHEAP!
He has two years remaining on his contract with only $9.2 in guaranteed money over those two years.
2025: $3.8M
2026: $5.4M
Plus, there is a 5th-year option that the team can pick up in 2027.

Not to mention, Richardson has been so bad thus far in his career that it probably wouldn’t take more than a Day 3 pick to acquire him.
Richardson will be 24 in May, and it is hard not to fall in love with his physical traits.
But, if you watch any of his games with the Colts, 15 starts over 3 seasons, you will fall out of love really fast.
He has no ability to read a defense; he makes more decisions; accuracy is an issue; and his completion % is borderline 50%.
In 2024, the season he played the most (11 starts), he had 8 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a completion percentage of 47.7%.
Daniel Jones went to the Colts and beat him out for the job immediately, and had success in the offense that Richardson struggled in.
That’s all you need to know.
Not to mention Jon-Eric Sullivan has talked about getting more draft picks for this year’s draft, I find it very hard to believe he would part with any draft pick for a player who, let’s be frank, has been a bust since he has been in the league.
I get it, trust me, I get it.
He is the former 4th overall pick of the draft, and maybe going to a new team, going home to Miami, he can be saved or fixed.
Maybe Bobby Slowik can create an offense around him to maximize his skill set.
One or more NFL teams will talk themselves into that, but it will be a complete waste of time.
The kid isn’t an NFL quarterback.
As much as the NFL changes, the more it stays the same, and if you can’t sit in the pocket and sling it and win games with your arm, you can’t succeed in the NFL.
Yes, mobility matters, and being able to make plays with your legs is great, but that can’t be your bread and butter.
Making the throws is always the priority, and that needs to be your bread and butter.
Being able to make snap decisions and read a defense needs to be something you can do, not something you need to work on heading into year four of your career.
Anthony Richardson isn’t a “low risk-high reward” type of deal for the Dolphins.
It’s a “low risk-low reward” type of deal.
He has a low ceiling, and he isn’t even someone who, if in the quarterback room, can help with the development of guys like Quinn Ewers, Cam Miller, and any rookie you draft this year.
Miami’s best approach is to sign a veteran like Tyrod Taylor or Marcus Mariota. Or just go all in for Malik Willis (at least he has flashed some ability, he can make the throws, and he can excel in the right system).
Trading for Anthony Richardson would be a huge mistake for the Miami Dolphins.
