Micah Parsons contract dispute: Emmitt Smith calls out media over comparison to 1993 battle

Jerry Jones has turned back the clock when discussing the Micah Parsons contract dispute. At one point, the Emmitt Smith situation was brought up by the Dallas Cowboys’ owner/general manager. All the way back in 1993, Smith did not have a contract entering the season and wound up missing two games.

Smith is not a fan of the comparison, though. Especially since some members of the media have run with the idea, comparing him and Parsons. He decided to set the record straight on Monday night, explaining how there was no opportunity for him to even get inside the facility.

“I keep trying to tell people there’s a marketing play and there’s a reality play,” Parsons said. ” … The media never should have called me a holdout because I didn’t have a contract. If I take your contract from you right now from the place you work, you can’t come back into the building. They take your keycard and everything. You can’t come back into the building. And you have no job then. But if I give you a job and you get a key fob, you can get into the building.”

“He has another year on his contract. There is a distinct difference… I’m here to set the record straight.”

Parsons is entering the fifth season of his rookie contract. If he is going to miss any regular season games, as Smith did over three decades ago, a few massive checks are going to come out of his pocket. As of now, the star EDGE rusher is not a free agent.

Dallas Cowboys have ‘no intention’ of trading Micah Parsons

Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons shocked the NFL world last Friday by publicly requesting a trade on Twitter/X. The trade request came after contract negotiations between Parsons and the Cowboys had reached an impasse over recent weeks. Dallas Cowboys owner/president Jerry Jones however quickly shot this down, revealing that Dallas has absolutely ‘no intention’ of honoring Parsons’ trade request.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, brother of Jerry Jones, reaffirmed this notion prior to Dallas’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams Saturday night. Jones joined the Cowboys pregame show and once again completely shut down any possibility of a trade that involves Parsons.

“That’s the nature of the negotiation,” Jones said. “If you look at any negotiations around the league right now…I think they’ve all negotiated a trade. We have no intention of trading Micah.”
