The Cowboys are looking at yet another high-profile contract negotiation this offseason, with this one being for LB Micah Parsons. ‘Get Up’ discussed the newest updates on those conversations and where they stand between Parsons and Dallas.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared the “positive” reporting regarding Parsons on Thursday morning. He thinks a deal will be signed by Parsons sometime in this summer to become the highest-paid defensive player ever in the history of the NFL.

“There’s been positive conversations throughout the offseason, so much so that some people believe that a deal will get done from Micah Parsons at some point this summer and, when it does get done, it is expected to make him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history,” Schefter said. “It’ll be a huge number. It should surpass Myles Garrett. It’ll give Micah Parsons that distinction and most people believe that deal will get done at some point here in the coming weeks.”

Parsons will be entering his fifth year with the Cowboys this fall. He has, in that time, justified himself as one of the best defensive players in the entire league, posting 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine deflections, and four fumble recoveries, with one of those going for a score. That averages out to 64 total tackles and 13.1 sacks per year for Dallas’ defense. With that, Parsons has been a Pro Bowler in each of his seasons while also being a First Team All-Pro as well as earning votes for Defensive Player of the Year and NFL MVP.

Dallas is less than a month from training camp, and, to this point, Parsons has left it to the franchise to get his deal done. That’s why experts like Mike Tannenbaum are wondering why the Cowboys are waiting as long as they are to do it with the money that the patience has cost them in talks like these.

“By waiting again, they’ve cost themself a lot of money,” Tannenbaum said. “If we went back a year ago, Nick Bosa, the highest-paid pass rusher at $34 million? They could’ve been at 35, 36 (million). Myles Garrett goes all the way up to 40 (million). Now, by waiting, you’re costing yourself four, five, six million dollars a year on a six-year deal. That is a meaningful amount of money. It’s going to cost you another star. We’ve seen this time and time again, be it with CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott. They want to wait and, by waiting, it just gets more expensive.”

Dallas is going to sign Parsons to a massive deal at some point as one of the best players in the NFL. It just seems to be a matter of when at this point when it comes to the Cowboys.
