Micah Parsons’ dominance can’t mask Packers’ otherwise disappointing offseason
Did the Green Bay Packers Actually Fleece the Dallas Cowboys in Micah Parsons Deal? 5 Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is shown before their preseason game against there Seattle Seahawks Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

It would be easy to point to the Packers‘ bold blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys to acquire Micah Parsons and deem Green Bay’s offseason a success.

After all, Parsons’ game-wrecking abilities all but sealed a victory over the Arizona Cardinals, already, with his dominant three-sack performance to avoid a second Green Bay calamity against an inferior opponent through the first six weeks.

However, excitement over general manager Brian Gutekunst’s offseason acquisitions has to, at least for now, be tempered, based on what some of them have shown on the field through the season’s first six games.

Packers’ offseason viewed as just average, so far

ESPN NFL analyst Bill Barnwell ranked every team’s offseason, based on the season’s first seven weeks, with the Packers thus far performing “slightly below expectations.”

“GM Brian Gutekunst’s two key free agent signings,” Barnwell writes of the Packers . “Have been underwhelming. Banks has missed two and a half games because of various injuries, and his move displaced Elgton Jenkins to center, which hasn’t been a positive for the veteran interior lineman. Hobbs, meanwhile, has allowed a 134.0 passer rating in coverage as the Packers have attempted to move a player who was at his best in the slot for the Raiders to the outside on a regular basis. It’s possible that the veteran corner is still battling knee issues after having his meniscus repaired in August, but there’s a real risk of the 26-year-old losing his starting role if he continues to play this way.”

Parsons has been terrific, and played like a franchise cornerstone player, but the Packers have yet to find a consistently dominant replacement for cornerback Jaire Alexander, and Hobbs has played about well enough to merit a potential benching in the weeks ahead.

It is still early in the season, but the Packers haven’t quite gotten enough out of this offseason’s acquisitions, despite emerging atop the NFC North standings after the first seven weeks of the 2025 campaign
