Micah Parsons eager to break 13-sack threshold: ‘I might jump offsides twice’
Darren Yamashita/USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons is one sack away from setting a new career high and he has just one game left to do it. The 24-year-old hit 13.5 sacks last season and recorded 13 as a rookie but he’s eager to finally break the 13-sack threshold.

During his press conference leading up to the game against the Washington Commanders, Parsons threatened to jump offsides twice on Sunday. Last week against the Detroit Lions, the star drew an offsides call – it was his fifth of the season. Luckily for Dallas, it didn’t cost them the victory.

“I know, I know,” Parsons told reporters on Wednesday. “I literally just had this conversation with the guys today. At this point, it’s any means necessary. I might jump offsides twice this week. Something has to change. Something. It’s coming. It’s coming for sure.”

Parsons was one of seven Cowboys players to earn a Pro Bowl bid this week. He joins punter Bryan Anger, kicker Brandon Aubrey, cornerback Daron Bland, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, right guard Zack Martin and quarterback Dak Prescott. It’s Parsons’ third straight Pro Bowl selection and no surprise for one of Dallas’s best young talents.

Parsons makes third Pro Bowl

On top of his 13 sacks this season, Parsons has totaled 59 tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 11 tackles for loss. He’s just one tackles for loss shy of his rookie total of 12, which is his career-high. Pro Football Focus, which tracks advanced analytics, revealed that the third-year star has had 102 QB pressures this season. Only three other players have surpassed 100 QB pressures in a single season since 2006 – JJ Watt, Aaron Donald and Maxx Crosby. Although he was at one point of the favorites for the NFL’s MVP award this season, attention has shifted to the league’s best quarterbacks in recent weeks.

Micah Parsons is nearing what could be a historic contract extension with the Cowboys. After this season, he has just one year left on his four-year rookie deal. Instead of exercising his fifth-year option, Dallas will likely make a statement and make him the highest-paid edge rusher in the league.

With a win in D.C. on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys would clinch the NFC East title. The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping for an upset by the Commanders, who are 13.5-point underdogs. When the Cowboys and Commanders last met, Mike McCarthy’s squad beat Washington 45-10. Parsons had three tackles with a sack and a half in that matchup.
