FRISCO - Micah Parsons isn't asking too much.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is now confirming the CowboysCountry.com scoop from Monday, March 23, that he has met with Parsons and that contract ideas have been exchanged.
Indeed, on Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings, Jones went so far as to say that the two sides are essentially in agreement on a deal.
“Most of the issues,'' Jones said, "we’re in agreement on.”
So, what the problem? The player's agent isn't in receipt of the contract proposals that have been presented to his client.
And now Micah wants to change that in what can be his final word on the matter before a deal is sealed.
As we were first to report, Parsons and Jerry and Stephen Jones have engaged in multiple contract talks in recent weeks - three of them, in fact. And in those talks, the ideas of the new contract being for five years and being worth about $40 million per year have been broached.
Do the math: The five years and the $40 million is where the much-hyped $200 million number is coming from ... and yes, with that framework, Parsons' view is that he would be a "Cowboy for Life'' and it would make him the highest-paid on-QB in NFL history.
And yes, no matter what some national reports claim, that is, and has long been, "meaningful.''
There are more details to be worked out; we don't know what the Cowboys and Parsons have discussed in terms of a most critical issue, the guaranteed money.
But we know that Parsons' agent, David Mulughata, hasn't been included in the three aforementioned sessions. And Jerry - who has for 35 years felt comfortable going straight to players to talk deals - doesn't care.
In this instance, Jones is actually pretending he isn't even aware of who Mulughata is.
Some call that "disrespectful.'' But there is another call to be made.
Sources tell CowboysCountry.com that Micah has nudged the Joneses to contact the agent to close the deal. It stands to reason that he's told the same thing to his agent about picking up the phone.
And when one side does what Micah is asking?
The drama on the way to making him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history can be done. Because a deal will be done.
