The Green Bay Packers defense came up huge in their Week 5 win over the Chicago Bears. Even without Caleb Williams under center for Chicago, it was an impressive effort from Green Bay, who held their NFC North rivals to just seven points and forced five turnovers.
What makes it even more impressive is that the Packers defense is not yet at full strength. They are still awaiting the return of defensive end Micah Parsons, who has not played a single snap this season.
The five-time Pro Bowler tore both his ACL and meniscus in Week 15 of the 2025 season, underwent surgery and has continued to progress in his recovery. But he has yet to take the field in 2026.
In his first year with Green Bay last season, the 27-year-old was exactly as advertised, collecting 12.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. He was traded from Dallas to Green Bay after a breakdown in contract negotiations, and his arrival immediately made the Packers one of the more feared defenses in the NFC.
Parsons had personally hoped to return this week in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, his former team. It would have been a revenge game in every sense, with Parsons heading back to AT&T Stadium as a visitor on Sunday Night Football.
Unfortunately, that reunion will have to wait. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Parsons is not expected to return to practice this week, which effectively guarantees he will miss a sixth straight game.
There is still uncertainty around his exact return date, but the hope within the organization is that he will be back at some point in October.

Once Parsons does return to practice he will need time to ramp up, and given how serious the lower-body injury was, it makes sense that Green Bay is being careful with his timeline.
The Packers are currently 3-2 and have been a competitive team even without one of the better pass rushers in football. When Parsons does return, the hope is that he makes an already dangerous defense even harder to deal with down the stretch.
