Micah Parsons Signing Gets Cowboys 'Crystal Ball' Treatment

Big contracts take time. That's what we've heard over and over, and for Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, Micah Parsons' extension is still being worked on.

With Micah set to command a contract that sources tell CowboysCountry.com figures to come in at at least $40 million APY and (per Micah's private desires) across five years, it is going to make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

But again, these things take time. However, the longer it goes without Micah putting pen to paper, the more the "trade Parsons" talk will ramp up.

There's one way to end it all and that's to get it sorted as soon as possible and for Stephen Jones, Micah's contract is still a work in progress.

“I've never been one to crystal ball when contracts get done," Jones said on Mad Dog Sports Radio. "You can be close, you think you're right around the corner, and then they get pushed out and there's extenuating circumstances as to why they or their agent don't wanna pull the trigger.

"So, that's just a work in progress. It's never easy to comment on them because you really don't know where you are until both sides are ready to go. But obviously our goal is to, and we have visited at times with Micah, and our goal is to get him here. And I think Micah wants to be a Cowboy, and we want him to be a Cowboy long term.”

The goal remains the same, but the path to achieving that goal is a long one.

With Parsons being part of this new-look locker room leadership group under Brian Schottenheimer, he won't be holding out of camp if a deal isn't done, despite him having every right to.

Parsons knows that being present at camp is crucial not only to learn a new defensive scheme but also to set an example for the younger players on the roster.

Jerry Jones stated Parsons must be the player he wants to be paid like, and so far, Micah is doing all the right things that a team leader should.

And it is hoped that his contract situation won't be too far away from sorting itself out as a result.
