While several NFL contract disputes continue to simmer just weeks before the season, none has drawn more attention than the ongoing saga between the Dallas Cowboys and star pass rusher Micah Parsons.
It’s been a few weeks since Parsons requested a trade, but Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made it clear the team has no intention of moving him. Despite the spotlight, Parsons has remained largely quiet this offseason—attending practices without participating and mostly staying off social media—until Thursday.
The tension escalated following comments Jones made on Michael Irvin's podcast, revealing what Parsons’ agent allegedly told him during negotiations after Jones claimed an agreement had been reached.
"Micah and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent. We had our agreements on term, amounts, guarantees, everything," Jones said. "We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, 'Don't bother, because we've got all that to negotiate'... He told us to stick it up our [explicit]."
In response, Parsons deleted all Cowboys-related content from his social media accounts and sent a subtle message on X. Alongside a peace sign emoji, he shared a scripture quote—Micah 7:8—that read: “Even if I fall, I will rise; the Lord is my light.”

Parsons’ post quickly went viral, amassing over 1.5 million views, 16,000 likes, and 1,400 comments within the first two hours. As of now, a contract agreement still appears far off, raising concerns about the start of the season.
The Cowboys open their campaign on Thursday, Sept. 4, against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. That leaves less than two weeks for Parsons and the team to reach a deal—or for him to decide whether to play under his fifth-year option without a long-term contract in place. If he opts to hold out, it could come at a significant cost.
One silver lining is that the four-time Pro Bowler has continued to attend practices from the sideline, demonstrating his support for teammates and coaches as the Cowboys prepare for their final preseason game on Friday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
