Micah Parsons trade: Jerry Jones gives mixed answer on using draft capital amid rough start

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave an interesting answer about using the draft picks acquired in the Micah Parsons trade. While speaking to reporters after the Cowboys’ 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears, Jones was asked if he would use the picks to make a move now to improve the team.

“Well, of course, to use that capital, you’ve got to have the opportunity to use it,” Jerry Jones said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “And frankly, no matter what I had seen in these first three ball games, if I had the opportunity to really do some good with those picks, I would do it. And we’ve got them, and that’s one of the advantages for, if you will, making the trade.”

Jones was then asked if there was more urgency now. “Well, not necessarily. That implies that being more urgent, I can create an opportunity to use them,” he replied. “That usually doesn’t work that way at all. You’ve got to have something that comes your way that’s really special. And if you’ve got the currency to do it, which in this case it would be draft picks, we’ll do it.”

How Micah Parsons has looked with the Packers

Before the start of the season, the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers for two first-round draft picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark. So far this year, the Cowboys have a 1-2 record and have struggled to get after the quarterback. In the loss against the Bears, the Cowboys recorded zero sacks against QB Caleb Williams. It was the first time in his young career that Williams was not sacked in a game.

On the flip side, Parsons has helped the Packers earn a 2-1 record to start the year. In Parsons’ first two games in Green Bay, he notched 1.5 sacks and four quarterback hits. In the Packers’ 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Parsons recorded two tackles and two QB hits.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, Parsons will return to Dallas as the Packers will face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football on NBC. It will be interesting to see the reception Parsons receives from Cowboys fans since he made an impact on the team’s defense for four seasons.
