Micah Parsons dropped a bombshell on Friday afternoon, requesting a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. Frustrations over the inability to get a contract extension have boiled over in the recent days. For more than just Parsons too, as fans appear to be fed up with how the Cowboys are operating.
Saturday saw the team back on the practice field and as usual, fans were watching from the stands in Oxnard. Toward the end of the session, a “We want Micah” chant broke out. Jon Machota of The Athletic captured video of the moment.

Parsons is still present at Cowboys training camp, avoiding the fines that come with holding out. At the same time, he is not practicing with his teammates. No jersey is being worn, more like street clothes for the fifth-year player. A move many expected from Parsons after requesting the trade.
Dallas working through contract extensions late into training camp is nothing new. Just last season, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb got deals over the finish line at what felt like the absolute last moment. However, you can go back even further to when the Cowboys were dealing with players such as Zack Martin and Tony Romo.
Never did any of those get to the point where a trade request was submitted. Parsons is entering uncharted territory for the Cowboys, even if Jerry Jones does not appear to be too concerned.
Now, the date everyone has circled on their contract is Sept. 4. Dallas is in Philadelphia for the season opener against the Eagles. Everybody in the football world will be watching as it’s the first NFL game of the season. A Super Bowl banner will be raised as well after the Eagles added another Lombardi Trophy to the trophy cabinet.
So will Parsons be available to play against Philadelphia? It’s maybe where the trade request becomes a little more real as game checks begin to be withheld. Brian Schottenheimer appears to be on the same wavelength as his owner/general manager.
“Micah is a competitor,” Schottenheimer said. “I hope to see Micah out there soon. When the business gets worked out, it gets worked out.”
Fans are making sure their voices are heard. Parsons is easily one of their favorites since being drafted in the first round four years ago. Making sure the star pass rusher gets a fresh deal and remains with the franchise is at the top of fans’ wish list.
