Micah Parsons trade request: Ian Rapoport reveals what Dallas Cowboys could acquire in potential move

Micah Parsons has officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys. While Dallas reportedly has no intention of moving the star pass rusher, teams will inevitably reach out to inquire about his availability.

To acquire a premium talent in his prime such as Parsons, it would take a haul. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed what that could look like while speaking on “The Insiders.”

“If the Cowboys decide to trade Micah Parsons… it is going to be a blockbuster,” Rapoport said. “It is going to be at least one first-round pick, maybe two, a ton of value and he is going to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL by a lot. It would take a haul, but he is one of the best players in the NFL and if anyone could force the Cowboys to do it, Micah Parsons actually makes sense.”

26-year-old All-Pro pass rushers don’t typically get traded, but it did happen in 2018. The Las Vegas Raiders traded then-27-year-old Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears. Chicago acquired Mack, a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick in exchange for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and a sixth-round pick.

Again, the Cowboys have to first decide if they want to honor Parsons’ request. Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett requested a trade earlier this offseason and a month later, he signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns, becoming the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at the time of signing.

Micah Parsons explains why he wants out of Dallas

Parsons was thorough in explaining why he wanted out of Dallas. Both sides have reached an impasse, and Parsons claimed the Cowboys have yet to have a single conversation with his agent David Mulugheta about a new contract.

“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here,” Parsons wrote in a statement. “I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present. No longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.

“… I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to [Cowboys CEO] Stephen Jones personally.”
