Michael Penix Jr. caught on video throwing beautiful passes at Falcons' rookie minicamp

Atlanta Falcons fans might not be happy about the Micheal Penix Jr. pick at No. 8 overall, but man, he can throw some pretty passes.

Penix Jr. was caught on video throwing perfect spirals during Falcons' rookie minicamp over the weekend.

Minicamp and training camp could be the most action Penix Jr. gets during his rookie year since the Falcons have Kirk Cousins inked to a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed.

Despite being caught off guard at first by the Falcons' first round selection, it sounds like Cousins has warmed up to the idea of the Washington product learning from him as his backup this fall.

He said ‘What’s up, man?’” Penix said of Cousins at training camp. “He said he was happy to see me, happy to have me here. I just told him I can’t wait to work with him.

“...We’re on the same team. It’s not hard to approach that relationship. We’ve got the same goals. That’s to win football games. … It’s definitely going to be great. I’m super blessed to be able to be right here in this position with a veteran in front of me, just learning from him and going about my business each and every day and just trying to find ways to improve and get to where he is, multiple years in the league.”

Penix Jr. makes the jump to the NFL after tossing 4,903 passing yards and 36 touchdowns for the Huskies in 2023.

While he's eager to show what he's capable of at the next level, he knows he needs to be patient and perfect his mechanics in the mean time.

"Whenever my time comes and whenever my number is called, I’ve just got to make sure I’m ready,” Penix said. “I’m here now. I can’t sit here and be starstruck no more. I’ve got to produce.”
