Michael Strahan pushes back on ‘same old Jets’ label

“Same old Jets.”

That phrase has circulated widely among fans and pundits after New York has opened Aaron Glenn’s first season as head coach with a 0-3 record.

But two-time sack leader and Super Bowl champion Michael Strahan sees it differently. He believes the Jets have turned a corner and could be an elite contender within a few years.

Speaking on “FOX NFL Kickoff,” ahead of Sunday’s slate of Week 4 matchups, Strahan expressed his confidence in Glenn to get the organization headed in the right direction.

“I look at them, and knowing Aaron Glenn as well as I’ve known Aaron for so many years, knowing Dan Campbell in Detroit, seeing what they went through at first, and then all of a sudden, guys buy into the culture, and it turns around,” said the former New York Giant.

“They become that gritty team. I didn’t expect the Jets to turn it around all in one year. I expect to see flashes from them, which we have seen, so I think Aaron Glenn is on the right track with this team, he continued. “They’ve just got to keep the quarterback healthy, and the guys just have to stay and believe in the plan and what you have.”

“And I believe that the Jets could be that AFC East Detroit team in the next few years,” proclaimed the turned broadcaster.

Fans often overlook that establishing a culture and building a winning organization takes time, especially under a first-time head coach.

Understandably, fans want instant results after an offseason filled with excitement around Aaron Glenn, but patience is necessary.

The Jets have already pushed two playoff teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to the wire in their first three games.

Yes, the Jets are 0-3, but context matters. They faced one of the league’s toughest early slates, with all three opponents coming off playoff appearances last season. Two of them, Tampa Bay and Buffalo, won their respective divisions.

Now, as New York prepares to face the winless Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, the schedule begins to ease. That shift gives the Jets a chance to stack wins and build momentum.

Strahan knows it won’t happen overnight, but he firmly believes Glenn can finally pull the Jets out of the same old cycle.
