Ahead of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s gold medal match against Brazil on Saturday, Cardinals wide receiver Michael Wilson took a moment to express his deep appreciation for his fiancée, Sophia Smith.

Smith has been one of the stars of the tournament, tying for the most goal contributions and finishing with three goals. The U.S. Women’s National Team secured their fifth gold medal by defeating Brazil 1-0, marking their first Olympic gold since 2012.

Before the game, Wilson shared his unwavering confidence in Smith’s ability to lead Team USA to victory. “I’ve been with her since I was 18. She went No. 1 overall when we were both 19 years old. She’s accomplished nearly every award out there, and I have no doubt she’ll add a gold medal to that list on Saturday,” Wilson said.

He also reflected on how Smith’s success has inspired his own career. “It’s said that you are who you surround yourself with, and seeing my fiancée achieve her goals has given me confidence in my own journey,” Wilson remarked. “If she can do it, then I can do it too. Our schedules are perfectly aligned—we train, recover, and watch film together. Her dedication pushes me to be better every day.”

Wilson spoke about the two’s schedules and the constant rotation of training and film, “Because now it’s like, well, if she can do it, then I can do it, too. Because we’re doing the same thing every single day. She goes to training, I go to training. She goes home and rolls out, I go home and roll out. She watches film, I watch film. She goes to training, I go to training. Our schedules are aligned.”

Wilson, drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Cardinals, had an impressive rookie season, averaging 44 yards per game and scoring three touchdowns.
