Mike Evans Gets A Shoutout During Super Bowl Week

After all that Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans has done in his career, his name should be brought up every year during the Super Bowl when he’s not playing in it. As he continues to build on all of his career accolades, those entering the NFL still recognize what Evans has meant to the game.

Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy Praises Mike Evans

One big part of the Super Bowl week is the media night were players from each team answer questions at various tables that are in either the stadium where the game is being played or a convention center that is close by. Typically, the podiums that get most crowded are the ones where the star players are going to. In this year’s case it would be Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Chiefs and Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley from the Eagles.

These enjoyable events come with a mixed bag of questions and motives. Some ask about the game itself or a player’s overview of football, while other’s go completely off-topic looking for a comedic route. Each way brings it’s own source of entertainment.

Bucs fans don’t typically support the Chiefs in any capacity and are quick to bring up that Tampa Bay is the only team to knock off Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. But there might be one Chiefs player that Bucs fans will be rooting for based on a response he had this week.

Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy was asked who he thinks is the best wide receiver. His answer was the greatest receiver in Bucs history, Mike Evans.

“I’m not even going to lie, a lot of people are not going to like this answer,” Worthy said. “But I feel like Mike Evans is going to be, after he’s done, is going to be the best. If you have the most 1,000-yard seasons that makes you the best receiver, right? That makes the most sense.”

Why wouldn’t people like this? It would require a follow up from Worthy but where Worthy may have been going with this is alluding to the fact that Evans played college football at Texas A&M and Worthy played at a rival school, the University of Texas. But at the end of the day, no matter where someone played, game recognizes game.

The 1,000-yard seasons that Worthy brought up are a big reason why Mike Evans is going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He holds the NFL record for most consecutive seasons to begin a career with 1,000 yards, standing at 11. That also ties Jerry Rice for the most 1,000-yard seasons in a row. Anytime a player has a record with Jerry Rice, it means they’re at the top with the best to ever do it.

While Evans’ receiving yards record gets a lot of notoriety, and rightfully so, his career touchdowns are just as career-defining. Evans is currently ninth all-time in career touchdown receptions with 105. If he were to duplicate his 11 touchdowns like he did last season for this upcoming year, that’ll put him at 116 and tied with Antonio Gates for seventh all-time. If Evans were to play another season, he’d be well within range to surpass Larry Fitzgerald at 121 and potentially even Marvin Harrison with 128 and Cris Carter at 130 to get into the top five or four.

And with all of that, the Bucs and Mike Evans are still within a Super Bowl window with this team to get Evans’ his second Super Bowl title and third in team history. Another championship would be perfect for his career credentials.

Bucs Super Bowl 55 Brought Up Again

Speaking of the Bucs winning the Super Bowl, their championship from Super Bowl 55 win was brought up this week. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has had a ton of success in his career with three Super Bowl titles and could have potentially a fourth after Sunday.

Mahomes was asked if there is a loss that makes him still lose sleep at night and he said the Super Bowl in Tampa. Of course that was when the Bucs defeated the Chiefs, 31-9, in a blowout, making the Bucs the first team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl in their own stadium.

A bad night for Mahomes, but a a great night for Tampa Bay. Mike Evans should be at this year’s Super Bowl as he is the Bucs’ representative for the Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award. We’ll see if he wins that and can also add it to his list of career accomplishments.
