Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans is not retiring and will play in the 2026 NFL season.

According to his agent, Deryk Gilmore, and as reported by ESPN’s Jenna Laine, Evans has committed to returning for his 13th NFL season. It looks like he’s planning to explore the free-agent market when it opens in early March.

Via ESPN’s Jenna Laine,

“Per his agent Deryk Gilmore, Mike Evans will be playing a 13th season. He will be playing in 2026. To be determined where. He’ll weigh his options.”

Evans’ impressive run of consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons came to an end last season. He missed nearly half the year with a broken clavicle, and while he did return, he couldn’t significantly impact the Buccaneers’ struggles in the latter part of the season.

Evans’ passion for the game remains strong. He’s consistently demonstrated an elite level of play, proving he can still dominate even as he heads into the later stages of his career.

Evans continues to show a strong passion for football, and he’s still performing at an elite level. Despite being in the latter half of his career, he consistently proves he can dominate on the field.

Even as Evans explores the free agent market, his strong ties to Tampa Bay remain a significant factor. His deep connection with the community, his family’s love for the area, and his established relationship with the Buccaneers’ ownership and organization make a departure seem unlikely at this point in his career. While he’s open to other possibilities, Tampa Bay undoubtedly holds an advantage.

The Buccaneers are reportedly willing to offer a substantial deal, but they must also balance that with acquiring other talent to build a championship contender. Given Evans has accepted pay cuts before, it’s reasonable to expect he might do so again to stay in Tampa.

The BR Rub

This isn’t the first time Evans’ agent has used the test the market or see what the options are. This unfortunately feels different. Remember Evans screaming “IT WAS 3RD AND 28” right after the Buccaneers defense blew another lead. Then add in that the team decided to keep the architect of that defensive collapse in head coach Todd Bowles.

Maybe Evans, like some of us don’t believe Bowles has what it takes as a head coach to get this team to the promised land? Or maybe this is just agent speak in an effort to negotiate more money for Evans from the Buccaneers.

What i do know is, it’ll be a bad look if this team keeps Bowles and lets Evans walk.
