Mike Evans Off-Field Update Emerges Amid NFL Season

The season hasn't gotten off to an ideal start for Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. He was pulled during the team's Week 3 matchup against the New York Jets due to a hamstring injury and missed Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A return for the Buccaneers' upcoming matchup against the Seattle Seahawks is unlikely, with ESPN's Jenna Laine reporting on Sept. 23 that he is expected to "miss three to four weeks." That's apparent by Evans being listed as "DNP" in the team's Wednesday injury report.

He continues to work on getting healthy, though, with hopes of returning in time to help Tampa Bay record its sixth straight playoff berth, starting the season 3-1.

Mike Evans Off-Field Update Emerges

As a six-time Pro Bowler, Evans has established himself as one of the NFL's most consistent wide receivers. However, his off-the-field work is also what's turned him into a fan favorite in Tampa Bay.

On Thursday, the Mike Evans Family Foundation announced that they will be "donating 153 essential items to children and families in need through Catch for Kids."

The foundationaims to help children by "providing them with opportunities to help make their dreams a reality."

The 153 comes from a pledge from Evans and the foundation, which will be donating one item for every receiving yard he gains throughout the season and 13 for every touchdown.

Despite already missing a considerable amount of time, the wide receiver has racked up 140 yards and one touchdown, equalling 153. That total will be updated monthly on the foundation's official website.

It's been a longstanding tradition for Evans and the foundation, dating back to the 2020 playoffs. From 2020 to 2024, 5,795 items have been donated.

The wide receiver has been nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award four times, which aims to reward "players who are doing so much more than delivering greatness on the field."

Evans has never brought the award home, but nevertheless, his charitable donations go far from unnoticed.

There's hope he'll be back better than ever for the Buccaneers soon, as he also looks to extend his already 11-year streak of reaching at least 1,000 receiving yards. It's an NFL record, shared with the legendary Jerry Rice.
