Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans is facing an uphill battle to keep his famous streak of 10 straight 1,000-yard seasons alive...and he knows it.
Having missed three games with a hamstring injury, Evans was put behind the eight-ball and now is tasked with trying to end the season with an almighty flurry to have his streak continue another season.
Currently on 521 yards, Evans, with five games remaining, needs to average at least 95.8 yards per game to surpass 1,000 yards. But with the 6-6 Buccaneers in a fight for their playoff lives, while he's aware of his streak, it's not his main focus.
“It's something I already know, I'm a human like everybody else, I know how to count," Evans said with a smile - and with a reveal of his true feelings. "It's on the back burner, if it happens, it happens. I'm trying to get it, I'm just trying to play well, if it happens, that means I'm playing well, so I'm just trying to play well to help my team.”
In his two games back from his hamstring injury, Evans, as expected, has been a factor in Liam Coen's offense, having 68 and then 118 yards and a touchdown to pick up where he left off prior to the injury.
While most of us want to see Mike's streak continue, the Buccaneers have bigger fish to fry, and making the playoffs certainly takes precedence over it.
But it is fun to keep track of, and 95.8 yards per game is definitely within his wheelhouse. If things get tight towards the end of the season, we imagine that Coen will force-feed Evans so his streak can continue.
