ESPN's "Get Up" got off to a rough start this Wednesday morning. In fact, it was so brutal that Mike Greenberg had to issue a minor apology.
After recapping last night's NBA playoff games, Greenberg and the "Get Up" crew discussed Wednesday's blockbuster trade involving the Dallas Cowboys. They acquired wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In order to land Pickens, the Cowboys parted ways with a 2026 third-round pick and 2027 fifth-rounder.
When breaking the news on "Get Up" this morning, Greenberg used a phrased that raised plenty of eyebrows.
"Dallas and Pittsburgh are working to finalize a trade that will send wide receiver George Pickens to the Cowboys in exchange for draft pick compensation. The trade is expected to be finalized today," Greenberg said. "Schefty dropped that bomb from an airplane earlier this morning."
A few seconds later, Greenberg retracted that controversial statement about Adam Schefter.
"He's on an airplane. I didn't like the phrasing of that."
You could tell Greenberg genuinely felt bad about what he said, albeit we're not sure if he was reading off a teleprompter or if that just came off the top of his head.
We doubt NFL fans will turn on Greenberg just because of this remark. He clearly didn't mean to offend anyone.
Besides, Greenberg has been far too valuable for ESPN. Not only is he the voice of "Get Up," he anchors the network's coverage for marquee events like the NFL Draft. He's also the host of "Sunday NFL Countdown."
