The Carson Beck takeover of the starting quarterback role for the Arizona Cardinals is not happening in Week 8.
On Monday, Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur addressed the situation with Beck, who missed some practice time last week due to a back issue. Arizona is 2-5 after seven weeks, but despite fan clamor to switch from Jacoby Brissett to Beck, LaFleur said the team will keep going with the veteran, according to Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official site.
LaFleur, who is in his first year as an NFL head coach, further discussed Beck’s status.
“I’m not going to talk about role changes right now, but I’ll know more tomorrow,” LaFleur said, via Bo Brack of PHNX. “[Beck is] going to do a workout tomorrow on our off day, just to kind of move it in the pocket and stuff like that to see where he is in terms of, I guess you could say, rep structure.”
Arizona selected the former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Beck in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft and reworked a contract with Brissett in the offseason.
Between Beck and Brissett, the Cardinals are choosing the healthier, more experienced option, but Arizona could still turn to the rookie if the team continues its downward spiral.
Coming off a 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 7, the Cardinals will try to get back on track in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
