Mike Mayock on the Dolphins Signing Malik Willis

Former NFL General Manager Mike Mayock recently did an interview with Betway, and he was asked about the Dolphins’ signing of quarterback Malik Willis this offseason.

He was very high on Willis and Miami’s marriage.

Mayock said: “Perfect fit for both team and player, because the GM and the new head coach come from Green Bay. They had several years to look at this kid in practice, how he is in meetings, and ultimately how he translated from the practice to a game. And he played at a high level.

There aren’t 32 good starting quarterbacks in the league. Who do you take chances with? I mean, why wouldn’t you look at this kid just like you would look at a Mendoza, except you’ve seen more of him, especially those two guys in Miami who saw him in Green Bay. They ought to be pounding the table to Malik and his agent, saying, “listen, we’re going to grow you, we’re going to develop you, and this is going to be a lot of fun.”

I go back to watching that kid at Liberty on tape and like he almost single-handedly beat Ole Miss, an SEC team, by himself. This kid was running around, throwing darts, using his legs. So from what I saw in college and the growth and development I saw in Green Bay, I think you have to take that chance.”
