After a year out of football following a disappointing end to his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys, former Super Bowl champion Mike McCarthy is angling to get back into head coaching and has an interview lined up with a team in desperate need of stability.
McCarthy had scheduled an interview with the New York Giants, but that clearly went nowhere as the Giants went with John Harbaugh as their new head coach. But according to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, McCarthy is set to interview with the Tennessee Titans for their vacancy this Saturday.
"Former Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy is scheduled to interview Saturday in Tennessee for the Titans head coaching vacancy," Schefter wrote.

The Titans have been on a coaching and GM carousel for several years now. Nobody has managed to last more than two years with the organization amid the constant upheaval.
McCarthy, if hired, might offer a level of stability that the team hasn't enjoyed in a while.
As head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018, McCarthy went 125-77-1, winning a Super Bowl and leading the Packers to three more NFC Championship Game appearances. He went 10-8 in the playoffs and had only two losing seasons in his first 12 years.
But year 13 saw the team start 4-7-1, and the team fired him.
The Dallas Cowboys decided to hire him in 2020 and after a rough 6-10 season, the team doubled its win total the next year and enjoyed three straight 12-5 campaigns with two NFC East titles. But a 1-3 playoff record followed by a 7-10 record in 2024 wasn't good enough for team owner Jerry Jones to keep him.
Right now the Titans would sign up for multiple 12-5 campaigns and three playoff appearances in a heartbeat. With the way they've played recently, they'd probably settle for 7-10 too.
The Titans are 6-28 over the past two seasons and have not won more than seven games since 2021.
Would McCarthy be a good fit for the Titans?
