Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman blasted the Dallas Cowboys last week on the heels of their historic 47-9 home loss in Week 6 against the Detroit Lions.
The Cowboys icon specifically called out three-time Pro Bowl wideout CeeDee Lamb, as well as the rest of the team's wide receiving corps.
Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy responded to Aikman's words on Monday morning.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy on Troy Aikman's comments: "They don't carry any weight with me, because I watch all the tape, I get to go to the meetings, I'm at practice, I'm part of the games. "They don't carry any weight with me, because I watch all the tape, I get to go to the meetings, I'm at practice, I'm part of the games," McCarthy said. "So I have a clear understanding of what and where. Troy's statement in particular, I don't agree with the word selection. There is definitely need for improvement in every position, not just one position that he commented on."
The Cowboys defeat vs. the Lions was their worst home loss since 1988.
Dallas (3-3) had its bye in Week 7 and will travel to face the San Francisco 49ers (3-4) in Week 8 on "Sunday Night Football." The Cowboys are 0-3 at home this season and 3-0 on the road.
Mike McCarthy won’t say this week’s game against San Francisco is a season tilter. “This is an opportunity to get our fourth win,” he said, but added, “We need to pick up our game.” pic.twitter.com/JJGUZFUisN

Dallas had the top-ranked offense (29.9 points per game) and fifth-ranked defense (18.5 points allowed per contest) in 2023, on their way to a 12-5 record and NFC East title. The team has dropped to 20th (21.0 points per game) and 31st (28.0 points allowed per contest) in the two categories in 2024.
The defense has been hit hard by injuries, notably to Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) and two-time first-team All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons (ankle). All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is also making his way back from a foot injury and is expected to make his season debut soon.
McCarthy's squad has the NFL's worst rushing attack (77.2 yards per game) and Lamb is, again, carrying the pass-catching group.
The 25-year-old has paced all Cowboys players in targets, receptions and receiving yards each season since 2021 and led in receiving touchdowns as well every year since 2022. Lamb also more than doubled any other Dallas player in receiving yards during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns after Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns in March 2022.
The Oklahoma product's targets (55) and receiving yards (467) this fall are well ahead of wideout Jalen Tolbert's 34 looks and 290 yards for the team lead, while his 32 catches are seven more than tight end Jake Ferguson (25). Lamb and Tolbert are tied for first with two receiving touchdowns apiece.
