The Miami Dolphins' cornerback room is the weakness of the team following the trade of Pro-Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Although the Dolphins acquired All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, Miami's corners got much weaker.
Miami's current cornerbacks consist of Storm Ducks, Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Kendall Sheffield, Jason Marshall Jr., Ethan Bonner, Isaiah Johnson, Ryan Cooper, BJ Adams, and Ethan Robinson.
Kohou is predicted to be the Dolphins' No. 1 option, playing in the nickel position, and Duck had a strong season in 2024, projecting to be the No. 2 corner. After that, it's a competition.
The Dolphins hope for a year of growth and development from Smith, and for the third-year corner to step up into the third starting position. However, training camp performances will likely determine who gets that role.
To add injury to insult, the Dolphins' offseason acquisition Artie Burns went down injured in Wednesday's practice, and he is feared to have torn his ACL.
Dolphins' head coach Mike McDaniel spoke with the media before practice Wednesday and addressed the cornerback position. McDaniel didn't rule out adding another option before the season starts, but did tout his confidence in the young group Miami has.
“Are we resisting getting better? We are not resisting getting better. I understand there are a lot of tweets, words, articles about a position," McDaniel said (h/t Miami Herald). "If you have youth at a position, you have confidence in it [before others do]. We’re not closing the door on anything. There are multiple players we talk about every day. Also very excited with some guys who have a lot to prove and are excited about the opportunity.”
The young guys McDaniel is referring to likely include Smith, Duck, and some rookie and second-year players who will get a chance to show their potential in training camp.
Dolphins have to sign a CB, ideally someone like Rasul Douglas
— Joe Schad (@schadjoe) July 23, 2025
However, as for the guys the Dolphins have been in contact with, free agent cornerback Rasul Douglas has been mentioned by numerous NFL insiders with connections to the Dolphins.
Douglas is an eight-year NFL veteran who spent last season with the Buffalo Bills. He played in 15 games, defended five passes, had five TFLs, and collected 58 tackles. Douglas would bring the veteran presence that it feels like the Dolphins' cornerback room desperately needs right now.
The first days of training camp have been injury-riddled for the Dolphins, and we could see a move made soon. But for now, McDaniel seems confident in his young group of corners on his roster.
