Part of being a first-time head coach is living off of hype, and that's exactly what Miami Dolphins first-time head coach Mike McDaniel is doing. He could be a bust, or he could be the next Bill Belichick. At this point, nobody knows, so all we have is hype.
Dolphins fans have to be excited about going from a defensive-minded head coach in Brian Flores to McDaniel — who comes from Kyle Shanahan's coaching tree — but is there such thing as too much excitement?
In the preseason ... there certainly is, and that's exactly what we got when the Dolphins coach sat down with the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.
McDaniel gassed up his quarterback, which is expected, but is he perhaps too high on Tua Tagovailoa? Time will only tell in Miami, but the head coach is certainly drinking the Tua Kool-Aid.
"The skill set [is] crazy. I mean, the dude is right-handed. You hear me? He's right-handed but he throws lefty," McDaniel started.
The head coach then went into a spiel about how every left-handed quarterback he's coached has had some sort of tail on the throw, but that's not the case for Tagovailoa.
"His doesn't. It's the most accurate, catchable ball I've ever seen," McDaniel said.
Le Batard tried to rewind the tape and he asked McDaniel to clarify. Is it really the most accurate, catchable ball he's ever seen?
The coach paused for a moment but then stayed the course.
"I mean, yeah," McDaniel said.
If there was a laugh track available for the show, that would have been a great time to use it.

It's worth noting that McDaniel did try to backtrack a bit. He didn't mean Tua is the most accurate quarterback of all time.
"I'm saying what I've witnessed, if I was going to catch that football, that would be the [most] accurate and most catchable," he clarified.
Tagovailoa is going into his third NFL season after the Dolphins took him with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft — just one pick before the Los Angeles Chargers selected Justin Herbert.
Last season, he threw for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 13 games. His average completion percentage was 67.8%.
For comparison's sake, Herbert nearly led the Chargers to the playoffs while throwing for 38 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with a completion percentage of 65.9% in the regular season.
