Mike McDaniel is not surprised that an angry mob has formed outside his house.

The Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator has heard the calls for his firing amid the team’s brutal 0-4 start to the 2026 campaign. McDaniel stated Thursday that it “comes with the territory of the job,” particularly when the team has performed as poorly as it has.

“When you have high expectations and you’re getting the results we’re getting and you’re 0-4, that’s pretty standard operating procedure,” McDaniel said of the chatter about his job security, via ESPN’s Kris Rhim. “I would be foolish, or I would feel entitled, if I didn’t expect there to be disappointment.

“And so, if you want things to change and you want narratives to change, you have to change them through action collectively. If our results are better, that’s the only thing that matters. So it’s pretty easy for me to focus on what I need to focus on.”

McDaniel was expected to supercharge the Chargers’ offense in his first year in L.A. That has not been the case through the team’s first four games.

The Chargers have averaged just 16.8 points per game in their four losses. They breached the 20-point mark for the first time last week in a 30-23 loss to the defending champion Seattle Seahawks. Despite the offense’s subpar showing, head coach Jim Harbaugh has stood by McDaniel — at least, for now.

The road ahead doesn’t get much easier for the Chargers. Their next five games are against the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Rams.
