Mike Tannenbaum: Tom Brady, Sean Payton could be 'package deal' for 2023 NFL season

Yet another NFL insider has suggested Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will play beyond the 2022 season.

As Chris Rosvoglou explained for The Spun, former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum said during an edition of the ESPN "Get Up" program that Brady and former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton "could be a package deal" for a team looking to hit a figurative reset button after the current campaign.

Tannenbaum pointed out that Brady and Payton have the same agent, and the ESPN personality specifically named the Carolina Panthers, Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, and Saints as potential destinations for a Brady-Payton pairing.

Brady and Payton were first linked over the summer when it was learned that the Miami Dolphins were forced to forfeit a pair of draft picks for violating tampering rules regarding both the seven-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller and coach. The Dolphins have since opened the 2022 season with a 7-3 record and likely won't be moving on from coach Mike McDaniel or quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this winter.

Perhaps the biggest flaw as it pertains to Tannenbaum's theory involves Brady's personal life. Brady and Gisele Bündchen confirmed their divorce on Oct. 28, and it was later reported that Bündchen purchased a home in the Miami Beach area and that Brady ideally would like to remain near his children assuming he doesn't retire before the new league year opens in March 2023.

Earlier this month, NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated hypothesized that Brady could sign with the San Francisco 49ers this coming offseason, in part because the 45-year-old grew up in California a fan of that club. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have the 49ers looking like legitimate Super Bowl contenders ahead of Thanksgiving Day.

It's no secret Payton likely will return to coaching sooner than later, but he could find that potentially working with Brady next year isn't possible unless Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht and club senior advisor Bruce Arians sign off on parting ways with Todd Bowles after a single campaign of Bowles serving as Bucs head coach.
