Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin isn't one to offer much insight in his press conferences and in a way, that was also the case Saturday when asked about the Dallas Cowboys' trade for George Pickens.
Tomlin, who held a three-minute press conference mostly focused on discussing the players at Steelers rookie minicamp, offered a blunt and predictable message.
“I’m not going to add any color to it other than what (Steelers GM Omar Khan) told you guys yesterday," Tomlin told reporters on Saturday. "We thought it was best and timely for all parties involved. Really, I’m just focused on the opportunity that is this weekend for the rookies.”
Khan shared a similar message to Tomlin's, focusing on how it was a fresh start for both sides and revealed some teams reached out during the NFL Draft though nothing worked out until Dallas reached out the week after.
“I wouldn't use the word 'disappointment," Khan told the media earlier in the week. "You know we had three years with George, and you know we had some exciting times, but you know, it's just time for the fresh start. For both sides, it was the right thing.”
Though Tomlin didn't add much insight, his answer was a remainder of the way he treated plenty of Pickens' storylines over the years. The Steelers head coach is known to be the biggest defender of the controversial wide receiver in Pittsburgh and he deflected many questions about Pickens' behavior over the years.
It's no surprise he refused to offer any more thoughts now that he's out of the building.
"Mike Tomlin was the one who backed Pickens," A to Z Sports' Rob Gregson detailed. "The two had a strong relationship but he realized that after three years of no improvement despite challenging him to 'grow up' he signed off on the trade."
