Mike Vrabel on Haskins' Legal Trouble: 'We Want to Give Everyone Due Process"
USA TODAY Sports

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans are on a bit of a high right now with the signing of DeAndre Hopkins and the start of training camp, but just a few weeks ago the Titans were on a cold streak with a suspension to their starting right tackle and the arrest of second-year running back Hassan Haskins.

Haskins was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after an alleged incident with his girlfriend. Haskins posted bond and is expected to be with the team as training camp kicks off with his next legal proceeding set for August.

Given the nature of the allegations, some expected Haskins to be released immediately, but based on Vrabel's answers in today's press conference, it sounds like the Titans intend to practice patience and let the process play out before making a decision.

"One, I think we are very sensitive to those incidents, but we also want to be smart. We also want to provide for all the facts and the information we possibly can get and the legal process," Vrabel outlined. "We treat those very seriously. Those are sensitive matters. We want to make great decisions, but we also want to give Hassan and everybody some due process and allow for all the facts to come out."

Haskins is expected to be a big part of the Titans team in multiple areas. Haskins is set to serve as the team's third back on the depth chart that can help pass protect on third downs or take some carries away from Derrick Henry.

More importantly, Haskins was second on the team in 2022 in special teams tackles and is set to have a major role on coverage units. He is a critical role player to the Titans and will be tough to replace at this point, if needed.

Vrabel also talked about how awkward the situation might be with the legal troubles hanging over Haskins.

"I don't know if awkward is the right word," Vrabel wondered. "We spend a lot of time with these guys and there is a certain level of trust that you try to build over the course of time. I wouldn't say that awkward is it. We'll all make the correct decision at the right time. Now is not the time to do that."
