Current Cleveland Browns consultant and former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel was fired in January after posting a disappointing 6-11 record in the team's 2023 campaign.
His firing wasn't a surprise to many including Vrabel, himself, but what did surprise many was when he accepted a position with the Cleveland Browns as a coaching and personnel consultant.
Vrabel interviewed for head coaching positions last cycle before being passed over for other candidates. He said he'd throw his hat back in the proverbial coaching ring when that time came, and it appears it's upon us.
Vrabel's consulting contract with the Browns expired on Monday, a date that was set on purpose so that he could get a head start on interviewing in the 2025 coaching cycle.
When he joined the Browns his hope was that he'd learn some things that would help him at his next stop.
“I think that things that I’ll ultimately learn here may help me the next time that, you know, I get an opportunity to have one of those interviews," Vrabel said in March. "This is what I’m focused on, focused on doing that and learning here and helping. And then, you know, if those opportunities present themselves after the season, then I’ll absolutely try to do that.”
Vrabel went 54-45 with the Titans including a couple of division titles, three playoff appearances and an AFC Championship game loss to the Chiefs in 2019.
