As the New England Patriots approach their first preseason game on Friday against the Washington Commanders, head coach Mike Vrabel provided injury updates for some key players who’ve been banged up during training camp.
On the defensive side, cornerbacks Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III have missed some time throughout camp. Neither player practiced on Monday and are not expected to participate in the Patriots’ joint practice with the Commanders on Wednesday, according to Vrabel.
Gonzalez injured his hamstring last week and is expected to be out for some time. However, the hope is he’ll be ready for the regular season. Davis has been dealing with an undisclosed injury since the start of camp, but has been seen around the facility getting some work in on the side.

The two corners are expected to lead the front-half of the Patriots’ secondary in 2025, and their health is paramount. To add insult to injury, another Patriots’ cornerback left Monday's practice injured.
2024 sixth-round pick Marcellus Dial Jr. went down in practice and was carted off the field. According to multiple reporters at practice, trainers attended to Dial for a left leg injury and remained down for some time before being carted off the field.
On the offensive side of the ball, Vrabel provided an update on receiver Kendrick Bourne, who left Friday’s scrimmage hobbled.
"The update was just kind of got rolled up and he won't be out here. I wouldn't anticipate him this week," Vrabel said. "So, he'll be working hard to get back, just like everybody else that's not going to be out here."
Bourne is competing for a role in a crowded Patriots’ receiver room. With Stefo,n Diggs, DeMario Douglas, and Mack Hollins likely the starters, and Kyle Williams, KayshJa’Lynnte, J,avon Baker, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Efton Chism III all competing for roles, the more time missed for Bourne puts him in danger of being the odd man out.
With the slew of negative injury news, the Patriots did get some positive news along the offensive line. Veteran center Garrett Bradbury returned to practice on Monday and took first-team reps, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. Bradbury had been dealing with an ankle injury.
The return newsBradbury is positive new for the Patriots, but Newcrucialstill has some important players' health up in the air. The Patriots have some time for them to get healthy throughout the preseason, but it's worth continued monitoring as we approach the regular season.
